Don’t want to give your Ringbearer the real rings?  And an empty pillow just isn’t your style?  Have him announce your arrival instead.

One of our favorite trends is incorporation of “Here Come the Bride” type signs to announce the Bride’s arrival.  We’ve picked our favorites from Etsy.com and pinned them on our “Here Comes the Bride” board on Pinterest.  See our top 5 favs below, with many more our on pin board.

Let The Wedding Games Begin! Your chance to "Pin" your way prizes!

We were so excited to hear about this new Wedding Pinterest competition from the Wedding and Event Institute — and our own CEO Kelly Werder will be on the judging panel!  Read all about it below and register for your chance to win the amazing prizes.

We need your help to track down 12 aspiring wedding planners, stylists or designers who would be willing to pit their wits against each other in our virtual Pinterest arena. Their task will be to produce a mood board and concept for a fictitious bridal couple who have requested The Hunger Games as their theme. We are looking for 12 tributes from across the world to compete in The Wedding Games. Do you know anyone who is up for the challenge?

The competition is the brainchild of Kylie Carlson, owner and director of the Wedding and Event Institute (WEI), and is a unique way of combining the use of the new social media tool Pinterest with the blockbuster smash movie, The Hunger Games.

“We know that we will see Hunger Games inspired weddings in 2012-2013 and there are many inspirations that can be drawn from it,” says Carlson. “One of the main jobs of a wedding planner, stylist or designer is to come up with concepts and designs based on the requirements of our clients, however unusual they might be. Our own personal taste shouldn’t come into it. And this can sometimes be a challenge. It’s an issue we address all the time within our WEI courses as we are training wedding professionals for a successful future.”

Entries for The Wedding Games open on April 13 for seven days only. At the end of the seven days, 12 competitors will be chosen and assigned to a district. Each Tribute will be interviewed and profiled on its own dedicated page hosted on the Wedding and Event Institute Website.

From the moment the entries go live the voting will be open to the public via a Poll on the website. Just as in the games, the Tributes will need to do their bit to gain awareness and get support from the public in whatever way they can. They will have just one week to rally sponsors and get votes. At the end of that week the two Tributes with the highest number of public votes will be put through to an esteemed judging panel headed up by renowned event designer Sasha Souza. The victor of The Wedding Games will be announced on May 1st 2012 and awarded with:

  • Course of choice from the Wedding and Event Institute
  • Signed copy of the book Signature Sasha - Magnificent Weddings by Design
  • One year membership to WIPA (Wedding Industry Professional Association)
  • iPad 2 16GB
  • One year subscription to WedLock Magazine - the marketing magazine for wedding professional

The Institute is a leading training company in wedding planning, wedding styling, corporate event planning and event design. All courses include a comprehensive suite of planning and design tools, business templates and software within a dedicated training environment where the students and quality of the course material is paramount. The tutors and instructors empower students to launch their business and become successful in this highly competitive industry. Continual support is offered both during and after study with the online Social & Education Centre which houses articles, podcasts, webinars, and other tools for those in the wedding and special events industry.
