Don't Let a Wedding Scam Ruin Your Big Day {WedBiz quoted on Fox Business}

Editor-in-Chief Kelly Werder was recently quoted in a Fox Business article assisting brides in finding reputable vendors.  In her article, Don’t Let a Wedding Scam Ruin Your Big Day, Kayleigh Kulp presents “buyer beware” suggestions to nearlyweds.  Werder’s suggestions included:

“Check to see if they are a member of a professional wedding organization such as the National Association of Wedding Professionals or Association for Wedding Professionals International,” says Kelly Werder, editor-in-chief of WED the magazine. “These organizations prescreen their members to make sure they have the proper business licensing.”

Werder also noted to the author that most wedding vendors were reputable and that proper review references or online reviews/endorsements will help weed out the few that may not be on the up and up.

Featured Vendor Profile: A DJ with Class  {sponsored}

The next featured vendor in our series is a DJ with Class in Southwest Florida.

If you are looking for the perfect entertainment for your upcoming wedding, check out A DJ With Class who specializes in weddings in the Fort Myers, Naples and Southwest Florida areas.  Your choice of entertainment can have quite an impact on your wedding reception – you want your guests to have a fabulous time, and once dinner is over, music and dancing take center stage.  If you are like most brides, word of mouth and great recommendations on wedding vendors carry great weight, you will be happy to know that brides rave about A DJ With Class – in fact, they have just been awarded the annual  WeddingWire Bride’s Choice Awards™ 2011 for Professional Wedding Disc Jockeys!

While choosing a DJ service can be confusing, owner Jim Dalia helps simplify the process so brides and grooms can sit back and enjoy their day.  Jim even works closely with your other wedding vendors (in particular, the staff at your reception site) to make sure those little details are not overlooked.  You can rest assured knowing your cake cutting, first dances, and other memorable moments will all be coordinated in your day’s timeline.

In addition to great recommendations and top-notch service, brides love the convenience of Jim’s website.   You can check wedding date availability, get a free quote, and even select your entire song list right online – any time of day, at your convenience.

WedTown Rita (our social network manager) recently spoke with Jim about his company and trends in the industry.  Here’s what he had to say…

WedTown:  What trends are you seeing in your area of the industry for weddings in 2011?

Jim Dalia:  A Lot of brides are asking about “uplighting” and other things that can give their reception identity or a “wow” factor.  I provide both uplighting and monogram lighting for brides who are looking for more upscale services.  We also supply video projection over a 10 foot screen for video montages and music video shows.  I have already booked 26 weddings for this year of which 23 I am providing services for both the ceremony and reception.   It seems more and more brides are asking about proper coordination and master of ceremony duties for their wedding as well.

WedTown:   What is your advice to couples looking for a DJ?

Jim Dalia:
  When looking for a DJ there are several things a bride and groom can do.  Take a look at my article The Success Of Your Wedding Event Is Directly Related To The Amount You Spend On Your Entertainment!  This article notes the important items to consider before signing a contract.  You can also find info on my FAQ page.

WedTown:  What is your most frequently asked question?

Jim Dalia:
First, “Do you coordinate the reception?”  Yes, we coordinate all the small details like the  cake cutting and first dances and we coordinate the details with all other vendors (banquet manager, photographers, videographers, etc.)  Second, “Do you provide ceremony services also?”  Yes, we do.  Third, will you be the one dj’ing  my wedding? Yes, if I am the one who meets with you, I will be dj’ing your wedding.  And finally, “Do you have demo videos?”  Yes, you can view videos from past events on my website

In WED: Beyond Platinum Weddings: Dream Designing my own Big Day

“Platinum Weddings” featured Planner Tiffany Nieves of Dream Design Weddings shares her own wedding planning journey in a special 3-part series.

Planning my own wedding has been an interesting journey. It has been exciting, awkward at times, and has given me a fresh new planning perspective as a bride. All of which I will delve into in each of the 3 parts of this series. I am often asked how my planning is going, “it must be hard planning your own” they say or “ this must be easy for you” I often hear. Well, both are true.

THE PROPOSAL - Let’s back track for just a second, JC (my hubby to be) and I went to Paris in 2010 for Valentine’s Day. I had no idea when we planned this trip, or when we left, that he would propose while we were there. Yes, it did cross my mind for about thirty seconds. But after all of our friends and family told me he would propose when we were there, I was positive there was no chance this would happen. After all, I am a wedding planner, I know that 10% of Americans get engaged on Valentines Day and then add Paris…No way, he would never do what he thinks everyone would expect. Boy was I surprised!!!

After 7 of the most thrilling and romantic days of my life, we said good bye to Paris. On our plane ride home I suddenly realized I was a bride-to-be, then all at once the reality of, “OMG I’m getting married” set in. All of the thoughts that go swirling through every bride’s mind were swirling through mine—that’s right, I was not exempt from the overwhelming thoughts of who, where, when, how many, and so on, and so on.
