And check out our blog below for our new series: 11 Lessons Learned at WeddingMBA

11 Lessons Learned at WeddingMBA: {2} Real Weddings are the Staples & Milk of your Blog {via WedLock}

Our next lesson(s) in our series come from Jayne Hallock, CEO of WedLock and her Master Class: Blog Busters - Content, Tips & Tricks.  Jayne started with the reasons to blog (to grab the shopping brides attention; Search Engine Optimization, etc.) and went on to share ideas and ways to break out of the blogging rut and bust through your writer’s block.

We actually took quite a bit of inspiration from this session - here are a few of our favorites:

  • Your Website is your Busines Card; Your Blog is your Personality
  • Bite-sized Blogging - blogs do not have to long diatribes of wedding poetry.  Short and Sweet is just as good.
  • A.B.B. - Always Be Blogging - some of the best ideas come not in front of the computer but walking the dog
  • Put on Your Veil - think like a Bride and what she would want to read about
  • Real Weddings are your Staples & Milk - they should be a staple of your blog and you should milk each wedding for as many blogs as you can.

11 Lessons Learned at WeddingMBA: Series starts Today

While speaking and exhibiting at WeddingMBA last week, we also snuck in a few sessions and came back many lessons learned from the largest wedding industry convention in the U.S.

In our new series — 11 Lessons Learned @ WeddingMBA — we’ll share some of what we learned with you, our wedding industry friends.

You’ll find a few new lessons each week for the next month.  We’ll also send out a weekly digest (sign-up here to receive the email) of the lesson highlights.

And we start you with a bonus lesson: Not many people are awake at 9 a.m. on Wednesday during WeddingMBA.

You see, the evening before is the WeddingWire party at the Palms (which we enjoyed but left early to get in a good night’s sleep).  So we know that many of you who did attend WeddingMBA probably missed Kelly Werder’s session, The Runaway Bride: Protecting Your Business and Your Money.  Well you can view the slides HERE and still take advantage of the Contract Review or Template special.

Now, on to Lesson One: Vintage & Rustic are still here, they’re just more specific {The Knot’s Rebecca Dolgin shares 2013 Trends at WeddingMBA}

Lesson One: Vintage & Rustic are still here, they're just more specific {The Knot's Rebecca Dolgin shares 2013 Trends at WeddingMBA}

In one of the first sessions at WeddingMBA - the largest wedding industry convention in the U.S. - The Knot’s Executive Editor Rebecca Dolgin shared 2013 trends. {View all the slides HERE and find more on The Knot’s B2B blog}

Rebecca began but sharing “What Inspires Trends,” which included films and television, fashion and celebrities, and technology and social media.

Trends for 2013

Rebecca shared 3 mega style trends for the next year that they are seeing based on research and survey of the Knottie brides.

Twenties Glamour

Inspired by the popularity of Downton Abbey and the soon to be released Great Gatsby.  A new take on the vintage trend.  Includes:

  • Simple silhouettes, Sleeves
  • Continues from Kate Middleton and Bella Swann’s gowns
  • Gatsby style all about roaring twenties, extremely festive

We LOVE this one!  Check out our pin board for more inspiration!!

The Ritzy Ranch

Rustic with flair and elegant touches.  Includes:

  • Simple lines, neutral tones
  • Natural wood
  • Wild flowers
  • Bales of hay
  • Garden and rustic settings

Hipster Chic

The indie couples with non-traditional touches and lots of fun details.  Includes:

  • Suspenders/bow ties
  • Shorter gowns
  • Vintage style photography
  • Mustaches
  • Bold colors

Rebecca also shared three new/continuing traditions:

Individuality – personalization – not going away, seeing more of it, brides want something different, more inter-culture marriages

Guest Entertainment – Bride now realizes it’s not just about her – wants to create great guest experiences – photo booths, Kissing Booths, more entertainment

It’s Social – hashtag for wedding (instagram), sharing apps incorporated right into the wedding

Many of the trends identified by The Knot can be validated by the choices wedding pros see brides making or their Pinterest boards which reflect the popularity of these trends.
