You And The DIY Wedding {from Sage Wedding Pros}

Michelle Loretta from Sage Wedding Pros recently wrote about the challenge of the Do-it-Yourself Bride on her blog.  Read a excerpt below and find the Full Article HERE.

You And The DIY Wedding by Michelle Loretta, Sage Wedding Pros

A wedding pro recently asked me:

Do you know anywhere I can advertise that doesn’t cater to DIY brides?  I’m an invitation designer and feel that I’m losing market share to the DIY projects out there.

This is a great question and I’ll answer it here for everyone.

 Whether it’s in your favor or not, DIY is here to stay.  Engaged couples are choosing to have more control over the details of their wedding.  And, some times, this has very little to do with budget.

They want to be involved in the planning process and they want a very personal experience for their guests.  Hence, the Do-It-Yourself phenomena.  Couples will select a few (if not all, god forbid) of the wedding day details to do on their own. This may stem from any of the following:

Have you Lost the Spark? {by Bride Attraction's Natalie Bradley}

Bride Attraction’s Natalie Bradley shares thoughts about the importance of passion in business.

We all start a business for the most part for one big reason. We feel passion, excitement and the urge to create through whatever channel is right for us at the time. And so we begin the journey and feel the butterflies, and move forward with anticipation, even in spite of some fears you may have at the same time.

And then for a lot of entrepreneurs, something shifts. After we start our business, “reality” sets in. Maybe clients aren’t coming as you thought they would. You thought you’d be able to create and experience your joy all the time through your business, but instead you’re pulled balancing books, understanding taxes, and trying to figure out what will get brides to come to your business and buy.

So here’s the interesting part of having a truly successful business. It’s never about the money. It’s always about the passion. The joy. The exhilaration. The excitement. The butterflies. The challenge. The creation. The thrill of it all.  Being an entrepreneur who experiences the success we all strive for is about staying in this true purpose for starting your business while also making great money.

Yes, you must market. Yes, you must manage your business. Yes, you must get help. But, you must keep that spark alive in your business. If you lose this, you’ll lose success, or you’ll never “get there”.  Being an entrepreneur and business owner is about keeping that creative, passionate spirit and spark alive.

The spark is the key to all of it. Lose the spark and you’ll lose the success. Use that to drive your business and have a blast in the process!

Who are Sage Wedding Pros?

Michelle Loretta and Kelly Simants teamed up in 2009 to develop Sage Wedding Pros, a business blog with daily tools and best practices for small business owners in the wedding industry.  Shortly thereafter the two launched The Simple Plan, an easy-peasy approach to business planning.  Today, they consult and speak to wedding professionals on how to build a successful and sustainable business.  They pride themselves on going beyond theory and arming business owners with the tools to excel.  Their national networking events, Thursday Therapy, bring wedding pros together to meet, mingle and share in a casual and welcoming environment.

Michelle loves blending her past as an accounting and finance nerd, sales vixen, and stationery entrepreneur to consult and coach wedding professionals throughout the world.  Kelly infuses her career history of human resources, organizational design, and wedding planning to guide and teach business owners on how to create a solid and smart company.

With The People Plan, Michelle and Kelly have created and compiled everything you need to bring on an employee or team of individuals. They have taken the work out of interviewing and screening candidates so that you can find your SUPERSTAR.  They guide you through the legal differences between interns, contractors, and employees. They make calculating payroll and taxes a breeze.  They’ve compiled the sea of IRS and immigration forms so that you don’t have to. They give you clear-cut details on what it means to be non-exempt, exempt, at-will, and an equal opportunity employer.  They’ve created shortcuts - like calculations, templates and worksheets - to use in your business. They also share lessons on how to mentor and lead your employees… and, even a little insight if conflict arises.

It’s everything you need to hire, manage, and train employees… all at your fingertips!
