WedTown:  What trends are you seeing in your area of the industry for weddings in 2011?

Jim Dalia:  A Lot of brides are asking about “uplighting” and other things that can give their reception identity or a “wow” factor.  I provide both uplighting and monogram lighting for brides who are looking for more upscale services.  We also supply video projection over a 10 foot screen for video montages and music video shows.  I have already booked 26 weddings for this year of which 23 I am providing services for both the ceremony and reception.   It seems more and more brides are asking about proper coordination and master of ceremony duties for their wedding as well. 

WedTown:   What is your advice to couples looking for a DJ?

WedTown:  What is your most frequently asked question?

Jim Dalia:  First, “Do you coordinate the reception?”  Yes, we coordinate all the small details like the  cake cutting and first dances and we coordinate the details with all other vendors (banquet manager, photographers, videographers, etc.)  Second, “Do you provide ceremony services also?”  Yes, we do.  Third, will you be the one dj’ing  my wedding? Yes, if I am the one who meets with you, I will be dj’ing your wedding.  And finally, “Do you have demo videos?”  Yes, you can view videos from past events on my website

WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU SEEING IN YOUR AREA OF PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEO FOR WEDDINGS IN 2011?

Expect to see more professional wedding photography and video at formal wedding events. It’s best to let the pros capture the entire production instead of relying on a non-professional or a part time hobbyist.  Quality, professional photographers enhance the day’s events through knowledge and expertise.  We understand that the day’s events are not be forced, but just happen.  At Naples Videography and Photography, we have over 15 years of experience; this alone is a great place to gain leadership.  We don’t just react to situations, we anticipate and formulate a plan before something happens, and in the process, we are always ready for the turn in the road on the big day! And there will be turns, so it is always best to have a professional with you on your wedding day that knows how to get it done.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO COUPLES LOOKING FOR A PHOTOGRAPHER AND VIDEOGRAPHER?

When making a decision for a wedding photographer/videographer, I suggest that you broaden your range of budget for these services.  Far too often, a bride sets a budget that is unrealistic and they decide not to broaden the search beyond this budgeted amount.  In the process, it is these brides who find themselves with a subpar photographer on the biggest day of their life!  I always tell brides to set a budget and then get info from all of the vendors who are within 200% of this budget.  It just might make sense to pay extra for someone who gives you fabulous photos and video as opposed to so-so or worse yet, bad photos!

WHAT IS YOUR MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION?

What is our style of photography?   OUR ANSWER: Which style is best, is for you to decide.  We have a hybrid approach, with a combination of journalistic as well as some traditional shots.  This approach focuses on documenting the wedding day and also includes time with the couple for formal posed or semi-posed photographs and also family group photos.

What trends are you seeing in event rentals in 2011?

Lounge furniture.  People like to add the “club vibe” to their receptions.  White furniture, glow tables, an all-white dance floor, or a black and white dance floor adds a fun, funky touch to any wedding.

What is your advice to couples looking for rental items for their wedding?

Weddings can become very expensive.  Every bride wants to have their dream wedding.  I explain to brides when they are looking to rent items from Niche Events, they are getting a quality product at a competitive price.  I am on site to make sure the set up is done properly.  This is a service that makes Niche Events a unique rental company.

What is your most frequently asked question? 

Brides want to know about the quality of the items they rent and that is why they often turn to Niche Event Rentals.  The quality of products used in a wedding truly reflect attention to detail that your guests will notice.  Brides should be very careful when choosing a company. I have seen a lot inexpensive chiavari chair rentals on the Internet and Craigs List but you should be very aware of the quality of items you’re renting. It’s tempting to only look at the price but if you don’t review for quality, you may end up with chairs that are chipped, wobbly and in very bad condition. Cheaper is not always better.

What is your advice to couples looking for an officiant?

Be sure that your Officiant can communicate the depth of love that you have for each other. We often ask how they would characterize the love they feel for one another so that we can express that quality in our readings and blessings. Look for an Officiant who can be there for you not only for the wedding but throughout your marriage to listen and to support you.
